British Muslims send Christmas Greetings

During this joyful time of Christmas on behalf of the British Muslims, Minhaj-ul-Quran International UK wish the Christian community a joyous and peaceful Christmas Season commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, may peace be upon him.

Commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ is for us Muslims similar to commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad, may peace be upon him, which is usually during the Islamic month of Rabi al Awal.

At Minhaj-ul-Quran International, it is our custom to celebrate Christmas and host annual Christmas gatherings and invite our Christian brethren. This has been the way initiated and promoted by the founder and Patron-in-Chief of Minhaj-ul-Qur’an International, Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri. A regular attendee at these gatherings is Dr. Andrew Francis, Archbishop of Pakistan. Speaking at one of these events, Bishop Dr. Andrew Francis said, "Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri has always been a torchbearer in promoting interfaith harmony between Islam and Christianity and I appreciate Dr Qadri’s efforts for global peace and harmony."

Minhaj-ul-Quran UK has arranged a Christmas gathering at its London centre to extend Christmas Greetings on behalf of British Muslim community.

Islam is a religion of peace, love and harmony which is also evident from a narration of Prophet Muhammad, may peace be upon him, where he allowed a Christian delegation (who came to visit him) to offer their prayers in the mosque in Madinah. (Ibn Hisham, as-Sira an-Nabawiyya, pp. 486, 487)

Acting on this Hadith, Minhaj-ul-Quran International has also opened the doors of Minhaj-ul-Quran centres and mosques worldwide for Christians to pray in according to their faith.

Is extremism growing in Britain due to Jamaat-e-Islami’s support of terrorism?

It is evident from the attack on Baroness Sayeeda Warsi on November 30, 2009 that the extremism and radicalism is growing among the young British Muslims whose ethnic background is from South Asia. The majority of British Muslims have condemned this silly behaviour which is against Islam from a religious point of view.

It is widely known that this behaviour is rooted in the theological background of a sect within Islam which started from Saudi Arabia by a name Salafi/Wahabi or with a slightly different outfit Deobandi in South Asian region. Their ideology does not prohibit suicide bombing or Terrorism in Islam rather they remain silent on this issue and indirectly encourage attacking even innocent people. This is evident from one of the largest Deobandi group in Pakistan which has been silent to condemn terrorism in Pakistan, as reported in The News on December 9, 2009.

It is very disappointing to see that Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has not supported to declare suicide bombing and Terrorism as un-Islamic. A point to note is that JI has large presence in Britain and for many years has been supported by Labour Government through their various groups including MCB, ISB or Young Muslims, see Guardian investigation which also links MCB with JI.
Declaring suicide bombing and terrorism un-Islamic has life threatening risks associated with it as it is evident from an incident not too long ago when Mr Sarfaraz Naeemi was killed soon after he had called it un-Islamic at a conference. A point to note here is that he was from a Sunni school of thought within Islam.

Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri was one of the first leading authorities to accept this risk and issued a 600-page Fatwa declaring suicide bombings and terrorism as un-Islamic at a press conference via video conference from Canada on December 5, 2009. This Fatwa is particularly important for Britain due to the fact that majority of the Muslims are from South Asia who have been confused about its religious viewpoint due to the fact that groups like Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) support it.
Particularly the vulnerable western youth has been the target by the extremists and due to their ideology. Hence, this verdict received large media attention particularly in Pakistan after months of instability, insecurity and terrorism and the press conference by Dr Qadri was transmitted Live on various TV channels and published in print media including The Washington Post and BBC.

The next British Government either Conservatives or Labour, must be aware of the fact that ideology within Islam has a major impact on the behaviour of British Muslims and that organisations linked to JI and other extremist organisations have not produced results to reduce extremism in the past. Hence they need to work with more moderate organisations and open-minded and dynamic leadership who has calibre to tackle extremism in Britain.

Pakistan at war with terrorists: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

[08th December 2009]

In the wake of terrorist explosions and suicide bombings in Pakistan and Afghanistan a leading Islamic scholar has issued a ‘Fatwa’ condemning the perpetrators and declaring that “Islam does not permit, under any circumstances, the massacre of innocent citizens, terroristic explosions and suicide bombings.” The 200-page religious verdict by one of the foremost Muslim authorities, Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri declared suicide bombings and terrorism as totally un-Islamic.

Unfolding the background of his religious verdict during an overcrowded press conference in Lahore via video-link from Canada, Dr Qadri said that “a torturous wave of terrorism has been maligning Pakistan in particular and the Muslim Ummah in general for many years. It is evident that while the Muslims as a collective entity condemn, resist and fight terrorism, and are not ready to accept its remotest possible link with Islam, there are some extremists who are also seen supporting it. Instead of opposing and condemning it openly and downrightly, they confuse it, making it a hotchpotch.”

Dr Qadri, in his Fatwa booklet published in three languages, explained in detail, with particular reference to Qur’anic verses and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad, that perpetrating attacks against innocent citizens, carrying out massacres, suicide bombings and the destruction of national assets and property “is absolutely against the teachings of Islam and that Islam does not permit such acts on any excuse, reason or pretext.” He added that “all these acts are grave violations of human rights and constitute kufr, disbelief, under Islamic law.”
Dr. Qadri appealed to all Muslim scholars, intellectuals, and opinion-makers not to concentrate on who these people are, who is behind them and why they are committing these acts. Whatever justifications they may give for their actions, they act against the teachings of Islam. They are in clear contravention of what Islam stands for. Their each action is premised on bringing harm to Islam and to the whole of humankind.

Dr Qadri stressed that “their existence is an open danger against the integrity of Pakistan and world peace” and urged that “the entire nation should dissociate itself from these elements, and condemn them in the strongest possible terms, unequivocally and with one voice.”
The Pakistani nation is in a state of war. It is the need of the time for Pakistan to form unity among its ranks at every level. The entire nation should stand behind their armed forces busy fighting a war for the protection of the lives of the innocent citizens, and securing national defense by eradicating terrorism.

He made it clear that his religious verdict was neither in support of the US and its allies, nor should it be taken as an approval of their policies in the region. In the same way, it did not support the disputed policies of the government of Pakistan and its unpopular style of governance and undemocratic attitude.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri issues Fatwa against suicide bombings and terrorism

LONDON. In the wake of terrorist explosions and suicide bombings in Pakistan and Afghanistan a leading Islamic scholar has issued a ‘Fatwa’ condemning the perpetrators. The 150-page religious verdict by one of the foremost Muslim authorities, Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, declares suicide bombings and terrorism as totally un-Islamic.

Growing extremist youth condemned for attacking Baroness Warsi

[04th December 2009]

LONDON. The small group of extremist Muslim youth in Luton who have recently attacked Baroness Warsi do not represent the moderate British Muslims and are condemned for their irresponsible action to attack Baroness Warsi.

Commenting on this incident, Shahid Mursaleen, media secretary of Minhaj-ul-Quran UK said that “Islam has not given any individual the right to assess who a better Muslim is and who isn’t and to behave in this way towards a female. The ignorance among the British youth is solely responsible for their actions in Luton.”

Minhaj-ul-Qur’an UK is fighting ignorance and extremism throughout the country to educate the Muslim youth about their faith and to bring the youth away from extremism. MQI UK is proud to live in a British society which allows freedom of expression but it is essential for the youth to stay act within their boundaries. The British Muslims and British youth hold Baroness Warsi in high esteem and are proud for her work to fight extremism.

Minhaj-ul-Quran UK believes that these events encourage the youth to become radical and believes that a Sufi orientated solution is essential to combat growing radicalism. The British government should take notice of such events which is another evidence that extremism is growing among the Muslim youth.

The founder of Minhaj-ul-Quran UK, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri believes that promoting moral development of youth and encouraging mutual understanding within Britain is the only way to combat the roots of extremism.
